‘The Medicinal Use of Alcohol: What is in the Menstruum?’
There was a time when all Al-kuhl (which means “BODY-EATING SPIRIT” and is the origin of the term “ghoul”) contained within it, plant and mushroom medicines. That’s right! Since their inception, spirits have carried the essences of medicinal herbs for the purpose of administration to those that require specific herbal actions in a concentrated manner. Alcohol is a technology that has allowed humans to capture the spirit of anything and everything, including themselves. In this exploration, we investigate the history, various uses, composition, and medicinal properties of what has now become a problematic substance for our species. Why we stopped infusing the menstruum with herbs and started drinking it, is a topic of conjecture but one we will enjoy exploring regardless.

2020 speaking events cancelled?
I think it’s obvious considering what has been happening around the globe but to make it official, I will not be speaking at any events or performing workshops until the fall. With no cases here on the island for a few months, I hope to start booking for the near future. This pandemic has certainly shown us that in our current climate, accurate information is difficult to come by and not everything is making sense to the rational observer. Use discernment and critical thinking, tempering all incoming information with logic and reason. Turning off the television helps. Fear, not so much.

Spring/Summer 2020
In the next few months, I’ll be speaking and teaching all over BC, starting off with ‘Mushroom to Grow”, a cultivation workshop with expert grower Vadim Junea which takes place on April 25/2020 at Linnaea Farms on breath taking Cortez island. This cultivation workshop will prime you on all things fungi while you get your hands dirty practicing different cultivation techniques. Students will go home with their very own Oyster bucket farm, liquid culture, and petri dish with genetic material to get started! We’re spreading the mycelium!

Next up on May 3/2020, I will be co-presenting “Plant Allies: An Introduction to Herbal Medicine in Recovery” with the amazing wise woman, Störii Wild. In this workshop we will identify specific plant allies for recovery, explore intuitive and playful connections to plants, create simple formulas (hands on medicine making), and facilitate the space for a deeper emotional, spiritual connection to plant medicines. For the herbally curious!

Last up but certainly not least, the Kootenay Herb Conference this June 5, 6, and 7/2020. This is a must attend event folks. So many wisdom keepers and brilliant speakers in one beautiful place! This thriving herbal community attracts some quality herb loving humans so its sure to be a wonderful event. I can’t think of a better way to spend a few days. Come be immersed in the herbal magic at the KHC! I hope to see you there!
